Accomplishments and Highlights So Far

  • Planned and implemented a mass digitization program for the Center, transforming the Center’s digital collections repository from one with fewer than 20 collections and 18,000 scans to one comprising over 60 collections and approximately 80,000 scanned items as of Summer 2011.
  • Through streamlining of scanning and metadata creation procedures, have increased production of manuscript and photographic archival material from 5 scans per hour to nearly 50 scans per hour.
  • Researched, documented, and formalized procedures for migrating analog audio and video holdings to digital formats.
  • Developed the AHC’s first formal procedures for managing and preserving born-digital archival material, and have transferred over 200 gigabytes of born-digital material (120,000+ files, 4,000+ folders) from disks to archival storage. The practical approaches developed to manage AHC born-digital collections have been featured in regional and national publications and conferences.
  • Completed two digitization grants that were inherited with the position and successfully applied for a third grant to digitize over 7,000 negatives from the Center’s historical photographic collections.
